In the week leading up to 8 June, there
were mixed signals on the Asian caprolactam markets and very few participants
reached an agreement. There was some supply coming from
Russia, but it didn't make it to Northeast Asia. This resulted in a smaller
range of discussion. One participant gave a trade indication at
$1,570-1,610/mt, but Russian materials were heard to be lower. A buying
indication of $1,600-1,640/mt was heard. China's
ex-tank spot price for caprolactam was reported to be below Yuan 12,000.00/mt
(1,683.50/mt). Local sources in Southeast Asia said that
although contract prices fell, spot prices rose as suppliers refused to sell at
losses. Prices of feedstocks like benzene, phenol and
nylon also dropped upstream due to a weaker nylon chain. Phenol
