Downstream nylon-6 prices rise / Supplies are tight in China and Northeast Asia

Asian caprolactams were priced higher during the week ending May 23 as participants in the market reported tighter supplies in the area. In Asia, the majority of caprolactam is produced using a cyclohexane process. This has put pressure on margins due to a thin benzene/caprolactam difference. According to sources in the market, cyclohexane was often priced at a higher premium than benzene. The current benzene/caprolactam spread was $633/mt. This is calculated by subtracting the caprolactam FOB Northeast Asia price from the benzene price FOB Korea. In Southeast Asia, however, the market continues to be very quiet. In other parts of Northeast Asia, the caprolactam price continued to be supported by a relatively robust Chinese domestic market. Participants looked to China as a source of pricing information.
