There were very few offers in the Asian
market for ethylene, so discussions were quiet on February 27. Due to tight supply, prices were higher in
China's domestic market. There were offers at Yuan 7,400-7700/mt, as opposed to
Yuan 7,300/mt in the week ending February 24. Participants
said that selling indications in China's import market were high because
near-term spot supplies would remain tight despite some announcements about
increases in operating rates for naphtha-fed steam crackers in March. According
to market sources, this was likely due to April's turnarounds that would keep
Asia's ethylene supply tight. The benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha
marker was up $6.75/mt to $728/mt as of the February 27 Asian close. The spread
