The Asia polystyrene market fell during the
week of May 10. The most dramatic drop was seen in the general-purpose
polystyrene CFR China mark. CFR
China dropped $95/mt to $1,145/mt after the Chinese market returned following
the extended Labor Day holiday in the previous weeks. FOB China cargoes are being offered at $1,170-$1,180/mt.
Domestic prices have fallen Yuan 300-400/mt since the holiday period. This week's fall closes the difference between CFR China's
assessment and domestic prices on an import parity basis. The gap is now around
$80-$100/mt. A producer said that some
customers were demanding lower prices due to the sharp drop in crude oil and
