Asian paraxylene fell $13.67/mt for the day
to $964.33/mt, CFR Unv1/China on May 15, as the market began reflecting the
lack of export opportunities of paraxylene into the US market to be added to
gasoline blend pools. According to a US-based source, due
to the cheap ethylene and lighter naphtha cargoes available in the US market,
US blenders are focusing more on ethylbenzene, and light naphtha, as
blendstocks. PX is too expensive at the moment for gasoline blending. The source
also said that the lack of vessels cheap enough to ship from Asia to the US was
another roadblock. A source in Asia agreed that the market had
begun to rationalize their view of the expected US demand...
