The week of May 5 saw European MEG prices
reach a new low. Buyers stepped in to purchase low-priced trucks. Prices were
as low as Eur460-470/mt, DDP Antwerp. In some cases prices had dropped to
Eur475-485/mt, DDP ARA. Traders cited a delay of US import
resupply ships as the reason for bringing buyers back. "At the
moment, the delayed vessels from USG to ARA are 1-2 weeks behind
schedule," a trader stated May 3. These renewed
spot purchases allowed PET producers to lower their contractually permitted
off-take, and replace it with volumes that were more competitively priced and
save budgets. However, the volatile energy prices continued to complicate
