The price of polypropylene on an FAS Houston base rose for the third consecutive week, May 29, amid increasing export market fragmentation. The rail car price for homopolymer PP was consistently above or at the high 40s cents/lb between May 28 and 29, but prices varied depending on where it was going. Multiple producers offered resins for export amid a drought in Mexico affecting the region's PP production, and US material being more attractive to Americas due to rising freight rates from Asia. Last assessed freight from Asia was $7,800/container (312/mt) at ECSA on May 29. This is up $100/container, or $4/mt, from the previous week.
