Market sources reported that the Asian naphtha market remained weak on April 19, despite an oversupply and persistently low downstream demand. A Singapore-based trader attributed the current market weakness to a surplus of naphtha following the resumed exports of Russian naphtha to Asia. According to him, approximately 900 000 mt and 1.1 million mt respectively of Russian naphtha will arrive in Asia by the end of April. Brokers pegged the May-June Japan Naphtha Swap Spread at $8/mt during midmorning Asia trading on April 19, an increase of 75 cents/mt over the previous session. The CFR Northeast Asia ethylene spread to C+F Japan Naphtha on April 18 was $221.38/mt, up $17.50/mt compared to the previous session.
