In the week ended Jan. 15, Asian polypropylene was mixed. Prices in Southeast Asia were stable to weak, while Chinese prices remained a range despite rising costs of feedstock. PP spot price in East China remained steady due to a balanced supply-demand situation. Prices in the north of China, on the other hand, have been consistently soft since late December following the introduction of new capacity. Chinese market sources expect supply pressure to increase as downstream converters cut back operations during Lunar New Year holidays. In the first quarter of 2025, it is anticipated that more PP will be available in China. This will lead to an abundance in inventory on the market.
