Asian PP: Lunar New Year sees softer China domestic market / Chinese sellers oversold in February / CFR SEA stable this week, CFR Vietnam up $5/mt

Asian PP prices fluctuated in the week ending Jan. 22. Chinese market activity was weakening ahead of the Lunar New Year. Parts of Southeast Asia also saw a slowdown. Chinese domestic PP raffia prices dropped Yuan 50/mt in the past week, to Yuan 7,400/mt. This was due to converters' lack of interest. A Chinese trader stated that "downstream converters are operating at lower rates, as they are beginning to take holidays." He added that inventory will be building over the next week and is expected to lead to a price decrease after the holidays. CFR China PP raffia remained unchanged at $875/mt on Jan. 22 despite new offers from the Middle East.
