Asian Propylene prices stable to firmer amid slow demand and delayed cracker restart / Southeast Asian market stable amid poor demand, tightening supplies / Japan's Maruzen Petrochemical restarts Chiba Cracker

Asian propylene was mostly stable or firmer on Aug. 8 due to a combination of bullish and negative factors exerting pressure in both directions. Southeast Asian propylene market prices were rangebound due to a lack of buying from regional giants. The restart in late August of Chandra Asri’s naphtha fed steam cracker at Cilegon also pushed up regional prices. Maruzen Petrochemical's restart of its naphtha steam cracker in Chiba contributed to a bearish mood in the Japanese propylene markets, as participants expected supplies to be buoyed. FOB Japan propylene was steady at $840/mt this week, despite a sluggish supply and low demand. A company source stated that the Chiba cracker is capable of producing 550,000 mt/year ethylene, and 230,000mt/year propylene. The estimated run rate for August was at least 75%....
