Asian PP: SE Asia breaks eight-week stagnation amid soft demand / China's domestic market prices are still a range bound due to supply fluctuations / Demand for Tet and Ramadan celebrations is weaker than expected

In the week ending Dec. 18, the Chinese polypropylene industry remained stable. Tight supply kept prices constant despite a weaker than expected demand in advance of the Lunar New Year. The domestic PP raffia price in China rose Yuan 20/mt per day, and Yuan 30-mt per week to Yuan 7,480/mt. Prices on the domestic market remained stable despite multiple PP factories returning to production after scheduled maintenance. A Chinese trader stated that the capacity increase was still limited for this week. Sources in the trade warned that new capacity expected in Q1 of 2025 would likely exert downward pressure upon Chinese PP markets. This could result in surplus cargo or competitive export offers.
