US Propylene Spot Prices Rise amid Continued Supply Disruptions / Market Structure Shifts to Backwardation / Propane Strengthens Day

Participants were still reacting to the PDH disruptions that occurred in the week prior. There was a lot of market discussion on June 18, as spotpropylene increased. The spot price of polymer-graded propylene in June was 49.75 cents/lb USG FD, an increase of 1.50 cents/lb. July's forward-month assessment was 49.50cents/lb (an increase 1.25 cents/lb). Three out four PDH plants in the US have production issues. Invista's PDH in Houston experienced flaring on June 10. This was followed by a flaring event at Dow's PDH on June 12. Additionally, Enterprise's PDH 1 unit isongoing maintenance.Upstream, on June 18 assessed Enterprise propane up0.625 cent/gal on the day at 78.5 cents/gal. Propane can be used to produce propylene. In Asia, Chinese propylene prices were up on the day due to tight supply.
