In the week ending April 19, trading on the European spot butadiene markets ceased as producers and consumers prepared for negotiations of contract prices in May next week. The export discussion is also expected to resume following the contract commitment decision, pending clarification on material availability. Both the supply and demand sides highlighted a tricky supply situation during the week. Crude C4 was abundant according to multiple sources on the market, but product prices were high. The crude C4 market is long and difficult to access. Raffinate 1, however, is scarce and butadiene is priced at $1,100 to $1,125/mt. Everyone wants to produce butadiene, but nobody can.
