Asia PP : largely stable on thin trade / Indonesian demand is weak before Ramadan / Sipchem and Lyondell Bassel to expand PP production in 2026

The Asian polypropylene markets were stable in the week ended March 5, reflecting prevailing market sentiment. Dalian futures fell Yuan 9/mt in the week ended March 5 for the actively settled May contracts to Yuan 7,307/mt ex-tank, according to Dalian Commodity Exchange. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, buying interest remains lackluster because of looming road restrictions ahead of Ramadan festivities, complicating cargo delivery and raising buyer costs to obtain goods over March 5-April 21. In plant news, Sipchem and LyondellBasell are already underway with a project to expand propylene and PP production at their subsidiary Al Waha Petrochemicals in Jubail, awarding an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract valued at $169 million for the expansion work to SGC E&C Co. and SGC Arabia Co. in August last year.
