In the week ending February 5, prices on the European base oil market showed a downward trend, influenced by a subdued gasoil price and a low demand. In Group I SN150 and SN500 is well-supplied across Europe. Many blenders are only taking partial deliveries of their contract deliveries. One trader stated that European blenders were not operating at 100% but also not below 50%. The market participants expected a surge in demand for blenders to begin in March. They also predicted a peak in demand in June. Bright stock is still experiencing structural shortages despite strong demand. Participants have reported that in January some bright stock off-spec was available, due to refiners making adjustments and performing maintenance. The US and Asia base oils markets have also reported similar structural tightness....
