Sources said that Asian monoethylene was up
$5/mt to $465/mt CFR China on June 19, due to a slight restocking after the
rise in crude. The market is still heavily dependent on the Chinese economy but
the recovery so far has been slower than expected. A Chinese trader added that
the second half of the year had not seen many positive factors. Operating rates remained at 40%-50% because of
poor margins. Brent crude oil contract for August rose 60
cents/b in a single day to $76.250/b by 4:30 pm Singapore time (830 GMT), June
19, 2008. Dalian commodity futures increased Yuan 20/mt,
to Yuan 4,034/mt. The inventories at Chinese ports are reported to
be slightly below 1 million...
