butadiene market remained stable in the week ended May 19, as downstream
activity continued its downward trend. Several participants on the market
said that low operating rates of SBR and BR kept buyers away from butadiene due
to poor demand in key rubber markets. Some buyers stated that they did not
want to receive June cargoes due to high downstream inventories. Others said
they only wanted cargoes arriving late June or early in July, as the short-term
was covered. Market participants reported cargo availability from the US
and Middle East. South Korea was also mentioned. This added to the bearishness,
