Sources say that the Asian ethylene market
experienced a bearish buying mood on May 25. They claim unhealthy margins
downstream continue to be of concern to buyers because of poor demand for
derivatives like styrene. The
low demand is attributed to macroeconomic factors such as high interest rate,
volatile upstream price, and a weaker than expected recovery of demand from
China's reopening. According to market
sources, most participants had already met their ethylene requirements for both
May and June. This further stalled demand in a stale marketplace. Some sources on the market also stated that market
indicators are expected to continue to wane as crackers start up again in June
