Asian propylene was mixed during the week ending Nov. 1. Chinese demand optimism faded, leading to a decrease in purchasing activities. CFR China fell $5/mt on Nov. 1, as demand slowed and supply increased. Producers lowered their offer prices in order to remain competitive. According to sources on the market, polypropylene producers stopped buying due to squeezed margins downstream, which pushed prices down. Market sources also said that several polypropylene manufacturers sold surplus propylene feedstock due to lower operating rates. In Taiwan, Typhoon Kong Rey had a minimal impact on the propylene markets. The typhoon may have caused some downstream production plants to operate at a lower rate, but the impact on the propylene market was negligible, according to a downstream producer.
