In the week ending 24 April, prices of virgin PET fell further. Sources on the market reported price drops for virgin polyethylene terephthalate. Some consumers were heard switching from recycled PET clear flake to virgin PET. This was despite the 2025 regulation. A trader stated that there is a growing emphasis on virgin PET, and customers are still able to choose between recycled or virgin PET. In the UK, recyclers have seen a rise in consumers choosing virgin PET over recycled PET, despite a wider spread between recycled PET clear flake and virgin PET. This trend is similar to that in Europe. A UK recycler stated that "there are still a lot of packaging companies using virgin PET because it is more affordable."
