Platts US recycled LDPE: Spot prices for all grades of LDPE go up / Sources report that demand is rebounding / Bids are higher this week

The US spot price for low-density post-use polyethylene bales grade A and B increased during the week ending Jan. 29 due to a rebounding in demand and supply issues caused by the weather. Sigma Recycling's bids for grade A bales delivered to Chicago increased by 2 cents each week. Sources attributed the increased bids to domestic buyers who were offering higher prices and a tighter supply. Sigma's increased bid was probably an attempt to compete against domestic buyers who have higher prices, according to another source. The mechanical recycler confirms that domestic buyers are increasing their bids, and attributes it to the growing demand due to new processing capacity.
