The Asian polyethylene terephthalate (PET) market weakened in the week ended March 5, pressured by falling crude and feedstock costs. bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia at $795/mt on March 5, down $5/mt week on week, while PET FOB Southeast Asia fell $10/mt to $870/mt over the same period. In China, bottle-grade PET extended its downtrend, as weaker upstream crude and feedstock prices weighed on sentiment. In upstream markets, PTA CFR China fell $18/mt week on week to $637/mt on March 5, while MEG CFR China fell $5/mt to $536/ mt over the same period. Despite lower feedstock costs, thin margins, and low processing fees--heard around Yuan 420/mt--have provided some price support, preventing a sharper decline.
