Asian PET: Fall in China, unchanged SE Asia / Oversupply in China of PET leads to falling prices / Polyester prices fall on lower feedstock cost

The Asian PET market was softer during the week ending Sept. 4. This is largely due to the oversupply of PET in China. The weak demand on the Chinese domestic market added to the pressure producers and traders were under. Some traders said they had lowered their offers to attract buyers due to high inventories. Analysts in China said that the situation is difficult because new capacity has been added since last year but consumption hasn't improved. This has led producers to look beyond China to move cargoes. According to sources on the market, there was no consensus in Southeast Asia as regional demand and supply were equal.
