Asian PET: Uptrend continues despite weaker upstream markets / Demands rise due to pressure on production margins / China's PET operating rates estimated at 87%

The uptrend on the Asian polyethylene-terephthalate markets continued during the week of July 10, despite weaker downstream markets. Sources said that offers from Northeast and Southeast Asia were adjusted upwards due to the pressure on production margins as well as the acceptance of buyers. A Chinese trader, however, noted that buying inquiries had slowed down in the week leading up to the 10th of July. He attributed this to buyers taking a wait and see attitude on future adjustments to the offer levels. In the week leading up to July 10, prices in the polyester and fiber sector were mixed due to average sales volume and the fact that procurement continued to be based on needs.
