Asian PET: softening amid weaker upstream cost / Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia experience price reductions / Mixed outlook on market weakness and demand

In the week ending September 11, Asian polyethylene-terephthalate prices weakened, with a downward trend observed in both Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. The market sources attribute the downward trend to lower upstream crude oil and feedstock prices, which have further impacted PET prices week-on-week. Purified terephthalic acids fell by $28/mt in a week, to $637/mt F.C.R. China on Sept. 11. Monoethylene glycol also fell by $24/mt a week to $523/mt F.C.R. China. The outlook for the market was mixed. Some participants have reported stable demand and business, while others are concerned about a possible downturn. One trader in Northeast Asia stated: "PET is not doing well lately; the market faces challenges." A producer, however, expressed a more positive view.
