Asian PET: Prices rangebound amid softer demand / Producers maintain stable prices / Market focuses on crude oil impact to future prices

Prices of Asian polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), which is a plastic made from polyethylene, were rangebound during the week ending Jan. 22 due to a lackluster trading activity. Bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia is $800/mt down $5/mt from the previous week. FOB Southeast Asia PET was assessed at $910/mt, up $10/mt from the previous week. According to multiple sources, the weak demand in China and Southeast Asia export market has pushed down prices. Most producers have maintained stable offering levels as most buyers are away from the markets ahead of Lunar New Year. Vietnamese trader: "Producers try to raise prices due to feedstock concerns, but demand is still weak." A Chinese trader also echoed the sentiment and stated, "Export activity is very slow this week." Market players are also closely watching...
