Asian PET: Rising on firmer upstream / Chinese PET offers firm on more robust feedstock / SE Asia experiences an increase in buying interest

As of December 18, the price range for Asian polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), driven by higher feedstock costs, was ranging from firmer to lower. Bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia is $795/mt. This represents a $20/mt increase on the previous week. FOB Southeast Asian PET prices fell $10/mt on the week to $865/mt. Chinese PET cargos were offered at higher prices during the week ending Dec. 18. This was due to higher crude oil and feedstock prices upstream. Market sources, however, said that demand was still sluggish in the run-up to year's end. Purified terephthalic acids were up $14/mt from the previous week to $638/mt CFR China on December 18.
