Limited discussion was seen in the Asian polyethylene terephthalate (PET) markets from Jan. 28 to Feb. 5, as the Chinese market gradually returned from the Lunar New Year holiday. In the bottle-grade PET market, prices softened amid lower offers, driven by declines in upstream crude and feedstock prices, trade sources said. "[There were] no deals done during the holidays. As upstream prices weakened, PET prices fell as well," said a Chinese producer. Similarly, limited trades were observed in Southeast Asia, with market participants closely monitoring upstream price trends. "I want to see the updated PTA and MEG prices before setting a floor price... if there's a reasonable bid, I'm willing to accept lower prices," said a Thai producer.
