polyethylene remained largely unchanged in the week ending April 19, despite a
weak demand due to Ramadan celebrations in Southeast Asia. Asian sources claim that
the interest rate increases in previous periods have had a lag-effect. Long
periods prior to rate increases, end-use chemical markets including polymers
were only now beginning to be affected. Sources
said that housing is a significant polymer end-use, both directly via the
polymers needed to build and furnish houses and indirectly through the
