Benzene moves lower week on week / Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals will restart its phenol/acetone production plant in July H1 / Domestic prices in India firm up despite high replacement costs

Phenol - Asian phenol was stable on a week to week basis at $920/mt CFR China, while East China's domestic prices were reported as falling by a few Yuan/mt or $921.50/mt based on import parity. Upstream prices also weakened in the week ending May 7. The average price of benzene at FOB Korea dropped $10.03/mt compared to the previous assessment. The benzene FOB Korea mark was $1,047.67/mt FOB Korea as of May 7. There were few discussions about phenol because the operating rates of plants are generally low. Some producers indicate that they run their plants at 70-80% in order to limit excess production. Spot export offers for phenol, however, were around $1,000/mt FOB China.
