The price of acrylonitrile in the US, both
for export and domestic contracts, weakened during the week ending May 2, as
the cost of propylene fell. On
May 2, a price for spot exports of no more than $1,200-1,240/mt was reported
but not confirmed. On May 2, polymer-grade
levels of propylene fell to 36.75c/lb, down 3c ($66/mt), on the same day, and
5c ($110/mt), from one week earlier. One
source stated that the price of propylene has fallen in recent weeks, making it
possible to export acrylonitrile from the US Gulf. Since April 4, the spot PGP level has fallen by 7.25 cents
($160/mt), or about $7.25/mt. ACN spot
