Asian PS prices rise with the strength of upstream markets / Spread of $20/mt between CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia / PS operating rates increase on week

CFR China general purpose polystyrene was up $10/mt for the week, at $1210/mt, Dec. 18. This is in line with higher upstream styrene prices and butadiene week-on-week and lower offers from producers at $1240/mt. CFR Southeast Asia GPPS was up $15/ mt in the past week to $1,230/mt. This is due to tighter supplies, and lower offers from producers of $1,270-1,300/mt. CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia had a spread of $20/mt for both GPPS polystyrene and high impact polystyrene on Dec. 18, 2018. Prices offered by Northeast Asia producers are higher than the week before, as tightness is expected for January cargoes. Vietnam Polystyrene Co. Ltd., a Southeast Asia-based producer, said that "we sold out our capacity until the end of January" and added, "we won't reduce prices further"....
