ABS Asian ABS prices fall due to weak upstream prices / China ABS operating rates rise to 62.23% / The price of styrene Monomer upstream has fallen $16.50/mt in the last week

The Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia markers at $1,455/mt and $1,475/mt, both down $5/mt on the week Aug. 21. The week was quiet and offers were heard to be relatively flat. The market for polymers like ABS and polystyrene isn't very good. "While polystyrene is affected by freight costs, ABS has a much longer processing chain, so freight rates are less important," said a source on the market. The market said that "demand is weak and prices are only being maintained for the time being, but [China] domestic prices have dropped slightly." ABS upstream prices fell in the past week.
