Asian Paraxylene Prices Fall as the festive slowdown Continues / Polyester plant operations continue to slow / PX plant operation stable

The prices of Asian paraxylene dropped day over day on Jan. 27, due to the lack of trade and the sharp slowdown in China's downstream polyester industry. Asian paraxylene fell $2.33/mt on a day-over-day basis to $863/mt at CFR Taiwan/China, Jan. 27. Some sources claim that the Lunar New Year celebrations meant there was little trading activity. A broker in China reported that the downstream polyester market in China has seen a significant slowdown in recent weeks as operation rates have dropped. The broker reported that the operation rate of polyester plants in the week leading up to January 24 was 79%, down from 83% during the previous week.
