Asian Recycled Pet / High freight rates pressure FOB prices / Buyers cautious despite surging virgin PET

The price of Asian recycled polyethylene Terephthalate was stable during the week ending Jan. 22, despite ASEAN currency fluctuations and a slowdown on the Asian market ahead of the Lunar New Year celebrations. FOB Southeast Asia RPET clear and premium grade flakes were unchanged from day to day and week to week at $855/mt et $915/mt respectively. Food-grade pellets remained unchanged at $1265/mt. The overall demand is weak. Several recyclers have noted that inquiries and orders haven't increased significantly since January. The market expects more clarity on the Asian demand in February.
