Asian PET prices ranged amid a muted demand for the year-end / Holiday demand is sluggish, dampening trade / Lunar New year expected to slow down buying momentum

Prices of Asian polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), weighed down by a lackluster buying interest, remained in a range or slightly softened during the week ending Dec. 11. Bottle-grade PET FOB Northeast Asia is $775/mt, down by $15/mt from the previous week. FOB Southeast Asia PET price rose by $10/mt on a weekly basis to $875/mt. The demand remained low, and market participants noted no clear signs of a strong upward trend in the final month of 2024. According to reports, buyers were delaying their purchasing decisions in anticipation of the long holidays. A Southeast Asian producer said, "The market has quietened down; we need to work twice as much to sell half of the usual quantities."
