Asian PET prices fall on weak demand / Southeast Asia prices remain stable amid soft markets / China Polyester rates fall due to lower upstream costs

The Asian polyethylene Terephthalate market ended with a mixed week, with prices falling in Northeast Asia but remaining stable in Southeast Asia. FOB Northeast Asia PET flake was down $10/mt for the week to $785/mt. Asian PET flake FOB Southeast Asia was unchanged on the week, at $865/mt. Market participants reported that low export demand was impacting the Northeast Asia price due to uncertainty caused by Donald Trump's proposed 10% additional tariffs on Chinese imports. A China-based trader said that export demand was bad. We can't predict what effect Trump's tariffs will have on the market. "Our order book is still OK," said a China-based manufacturer.
