Asian ABS prices unchanged despite stable offer levels / Upstream input costs increase $9.05/mt in a week / China ABS operating rates slightly higher

The Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene CFR China marker stable on the week at $1,420/mt. CFR Southeast Asia was valued at $1,445/mt in October 23, a $5/mt increase due to improved demand levels. Despite the fact that ABS prices in China fell on the week, producers generally kept ABS CFR China offers at the same levels due to the tight SM supply outside China. Supply concerns in the downstream SM market could have contributed to the higher buying interest. South Korean SM derivatives producers and a Taiwan SM key producer are undergoing turnarounds. We do believe that (with the upstream units planning turnarounds for the end of the Month), this would provide price support for SM and would boost ABS prices," a participant in the market shared.
