CFR China styrene Monomer and FOB Korean markers were both $1,121.50/mt on August 23. This is $10/mt higher than the previous assessment. The day saw a rise in discussions for Asian SM, attributed to a rebound overnight in crude oil prices. Market sources remain cautious about the durability of higher prices. A market source stated that "Demand has been very weak and [price] supports are not strong, so it's hard to predict how long the higher prices will last." Crude oil futures ended higher on August 22 after markets stabilised following a session in which they had hit seven-month lows amid fears of a slowing growth in global demand.
