Asian PET price downtrend continues with minimal trades / Low demand drives prices down / South Korea imposes temporary Antidumping Duties on Chinese PET Resin

In the week ending July 31, there were mixed trends on the Asian polyethylene-terephthalate markets. PET prices fell in FOB Northeast Asia, FOB Southeast Asia, and the domestic Chinese market. Market sources reported that PET offers continued to fall as the demand remained low, and minimal market activity was reported. One market participant said that the weakening upstream crude markets and the lack of buying activity in downstream sectors were the main reasons for the price decline. The market source stated that "upstream costs have been falling... there's not enough cost support to drive prices higher."
