Asian Orthoxylene prices jump on firm buyer interest / Continued bids show no sellers / Domestic China operating rates mostly higher on week

Asian orthoxylene is up sharply week-on-week at $900/mt FCL China, $961/mt FCL Korea, and $810/mt FCL Southeast Asia on Jan. 17. Laycans are scheduled for February 6-26. FOB Korea was $1/mt higher than the previous week on Jan. 17 at $961/mt. This bid was for any loading in February, on a letter of credit basis at sight, and open origin, except Iran/Russia. The buyer raised its bid to $961/mt from $850/mt on Jan. 15 with no sellers in sight. Trading sources reported that several market participants speculated on the destination of cargoes when prices for PA were not increasing as rapidly. A trader stated that "[this] high price OX FOB Korea (basis) might be for Europe and not PA." Trading sources have also reported that supplies are tightening in China....
