Asian PET demand is impacted by upstream declines / Producers adjust their offers as sentiment decreases / Polyester prices drop with crude oil price uncertainty

The Asian spot price of polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, continued to fall in the week ending October 23, due to a subdued regional demand. According to sources, some producers in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia kept their offers stable, but most reduced their prices to respond to the weakening market sentiment. A Chinese trader said that the market had not changed much since last week, and pointed out continued weakness. Vietnamese trader said that both cargoes coming from China and Vietnam had softened $10-$20/mt in comparison to the previous week. Prices in the polyester yarns and fibers sector also fell as buyers became more uncertain due to recent drops in crude oil price.
