Asian HDPE prices stable despite unchanged fundamentals / Prices in SE Asia remain stable / Jilin Petrochemical in China shuts down HDPE unit to turn around

The Asian market for high density polyethylene remained largely stable during the week ending August 28 due to unchanged fundamentals in demand and supply. HDPE film remained stable at $900/mt FAR East Asia and $950/mt FAR Southeast Asia for the week. Early in the week, prices in China rose slightly following news that an imminent US interest rate reduction was on its way. Sources said that this didn't translate into any price changes for cargoes denominated in dollars. The latest data from the China Customs Statistical Information Center shows that HDPE imports into China increased by 23.4% in the last month to 543,570 mt, after three consecutive months where they had declined.
