Asian Recycled HDPE prices fall amid weak demand / Demand continues to decline / Recyclers' profit margins are shrinking

The Asian market for recycled HDPE remained under pressure due to a weak demand and light trading during the week of August 7. Recycled HDPE natural film was down $10/mt from the previous week, at $710/mt FOM Southeast Asia. HDPE black blow-molding pellets were also down $10/mt from the previous week, at $570/mt FOM SE Asia. The demand for recycled black pellets is slightly higher than that of natural film pellets. This is due to the oversupply on the market. In the past few months, recyclers have purchased the cheaper grades, such as black Pellets, to reduce overhead costs. A trader said that many recyclers have too much inventory. Due to the double whammy that is expensive scrap and low demand, recycling and production companies have seen their profit margins...
