Asian HDPE prices stable despite thin trade

The Asian high density polyethylene markets remained steady in the week ending August 7, despite a lack of trading, as buyers took a wait and see attitude. HDPE film grade was stable for the week, at $930/mt CFR Northeast Asia. The Southeast Asia marker remained unchanged at $980/mt. The market in Southeast Asia remained awash with supply, both from Middle East and Asian suppliers. The uncertainty of shipping conditions, coupled with a bearish mood, kept buyers away. Sources expect the congestion in port to subside and freight prices to drop by September. A trader said that most buyers believe the freight situation is going to improve and prices will soften by the second half of August.
