Benzene prices rise week over week / New China capacity is expected by March

The price of acetone and phenol in Asia increased week-over-week as domestic prices and the Chinese market returned from Lunar New Year holidays. CFR China phenol was up $5/mt from the previous week to $895/mt in February 11. Domestic prices in China were around Yuan 7,825/mt, or $898/mt based on import parity. Benzene prices, a major feedstock for phenol rose an average of $15/mt between Feb. 5-11. The FOB Korea price closed at $918.67/mt in February 11. A producer in Southeast Asia offered phenol at $950/mt FOB, and said that CFR Southeast Asia was close to $1050/mt. This price would apply for 500-1,000mt cargoes. CFR China acetone increased by $25/mt in one week to $710/mt, with the domestic price of acetone in China being around Yuan 6,325/mt. A buyer stated,...
