The European naphtha spreads fell further
on May 3 as the prompt structure continued to move into contango. The May/June Spread was
lowered by $1.50/mt to minus $2.50/mt while the June/July spread was lowered by
$1/mt to $1/mt. Sources said that the
general sentiment was negative due to a weak petrochemical market and tough
competition for feedstocks. One source
stated that the petrochemical sector is in a bad place right now, and LPG was
clearly included. Market sources reported
that the UK's Pembroke refinery, which produces 270,000 b/d, has completed
partial work. The refinery had planned to
perform maintenance in March. Valero's
