Mexico saw a spike in business during the
week of June 14, despite an unseasonably low US demand for polyethylene. One source reported that several cargoes of
imported polyethylene terephthalate were used for soft drink bottling. However,
bids were $200/mt lower than normal, according to the source. A US-based
trader reported that they have seen a rise in inquiries from the Caribbean and
Paraguay for volumes of Asia origin. According
to data, FOB Northeast Asia PET has remained within a $100/mt price range
through 2023 -- between $900 and $1,000/mt. The
intermediate purified terephthalic acids prices in Asia spiked during the week. Importers
