Premium drops $5.25/mt per day / MTBE Prices Fall by $18.25/mt in a Day

Prices for European MTBE dropped on May 22 due to the continued lack of demand ahead of summer driving season. In the market on Close process, the selling interest was $972.75/mt. The outright price fell by $18.25 on that day to $972.75/mt. MTBE has been a slow seller despite the approaching peak driving season. One deal was made during the MOC. Finco sold 1,000mt of gasoline at $976/mt to load mid-window. This did not contradict the intraday value calculated by using the previous assessment premium over June Eurobob gasoline swap. The MTBE swap premium for the Eurobob front-month swap fell by $5.25/mt on May 22, to $130.25/mt. This was due to a weaker complex upstream. In Asia, the MTBE markets were described as thin.
